Street Chess

Playing blitz games in the park. "How about a game? Three, five, or ten, 5-minute or any time you want." Regardling chess hustlers...try thinking of them as "street artists" and you may get a clearer idea of the range of people involved. Some are homeless. Some are homeless by choice. Some are people who show up to play in the parks two or three days a week, and may have other jobs (other lives) on other days and a fair number are students.

Street Chess

Chess and Checker table set up in Chicago (as indicated by a reader of this blog) and not New York as I initially posted. If they’re playing for food money, it’s no joke, and it's almost sure you are going to loose.
As a curiosity, also Humphrey Bogart, in 1929, after the stock market crash, he hustled chess players for quarters of dolar in New York City parks and for dimes against all comers at Coney Island.
